My Matariki kite

It is Matariki in New Zealand and the Maori people are thinking about things they want to plan for this year. They will celebrate tomorrow with their families. They will have lots of food and maybe they will fly some kites.

We have been trying to make paper kites. First we cut the paper bag into two halves. Then we folded them into 8 strips. Second we painted them red, white and black. Third, we folded them into 8 strips. Fourth we made Maori patterns and painted them. I picked yellow, red and black. My other colour for the other half was purple. The longest part was weaving all the strips together.

Finally we braided three colours of twine to make the tail. Then Mrs Yumul got a glue gun and she put a feather and fern branches on to the bottom.

My Matariki Star

Today in Cybersmart I created a Matariki star using the diamond shape. I had to duplicate it and rotate it to make it fit like a star. Then I had to use the colour gradient to make special colours. This is my star:

Torty, the Lucky Tortoise

In Room 6, we read about Torty the Lucky Tortoise.  The story happened in 1914 in Salonika, Greece during the first world war. Torty was found by a New Zealand soldier named Stewart who was horrified to see that Torty got run over by a gun carriage. Stewart rescued Torty and they became friends. After the war Stewart came back to New Zealand and brought Torty with him.

They had many adventures together. Torty was 200 years old when she died.

This is my drawing of Torty.

My Sea Creature

We have been looking at marine reserves. We chose a sea creature to describe without using its name.

My sea creature belongs to the family of mollusks

My sea creature has three hearts and nine brains

My sea creature has blue blood and can change color to camouflage itself

My sea creature can live up to 3-5 years
